Purposeful Dissonance

Purposeful Dissonance is an 11-member a cappella group at Champlain College. Founder and former president, Kenneth Bufford, from Boston, Massachusetts, formed the group in 2018 as a first-year Law major. Kenneth wanted to bring his a cappella talents to Champlain and form a group of likeminded performers who brought their A-game. The group is a harmonizing blend of vocalists and beatboxers, with a mix of ages, genders, ethnicities, races, and academic majors who were selected after a rigorous audition process; the same process that helped them place 4 in 10 at The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) during their first year. Current President, Jasmin Spiers, hopes to bring the group back in spring 2021 with safe COVID-19 precautions to prepare for new members as well as competition in spring 2022.
